BCS 2020 New Digs, La Paz

Covid-19 is making up most of the US news while social distancing orders are playing out as of April 30th.  I still find myself with a few hard choices.  In BCS, things are still pretty much the same, masks, beaches and most places closed few people walk and drive the streets, (see previous post BCS 2020 Lock Down La Paz).  I needed to get out and check on things for myself.
Donned with a mask I headed over to where FRED is parked Departamentos Amueblados Vista Hermosa to run some errands (essential travel), I could have walked but FRED needed some time on the road.
First to the Banco Azteca to get some pesos, exchange rate is good and getting better, then get fuel lowest prices I've seen.  FRED really needed a bath so I hooked him up to a day spa for a wash.
Looking much better we hopped on the main road and headed north out of town.  I wanted to do some recon to figure out my next set of options.

Taking my time driving on the roadways I passed check points that were not staffed and saw plenty of police and army personal driving around.  I was most concerned about the junction at MEX1 to the little village of Evaristo.  I was planning to go back to a remote spot where I camped for 5 weeks (see April 22nd post BCS 2020 Self Isolation).  Approaching the junction my fears were confirmed.  The road-block was still in place and staffed with police, I turned off to the Pemex station just before the junction, there was no reason to inquire and bring attention to myself.
Turning around headed back into town I was now seeing the check points staffed stopping people going out of town.  That was close my ploy if stopped, I was looking for Home Depot which I knew was in the other direction, lost gringo!!
With a quick stop at a super market Chedraul Cuesta Menos I loaded up on provisions, heavy stuff I did not have to carry blocks back to my flat.  With conformation on the check points I made the decision to stay in La Paz til the end of May. My couple of weeks were up at Pension Baja Paradise so I decided to moved in with FRED where I rented a 2 bdrm apt (what was available).

Departamentos Amueblados Vista Hermosa 3rd floor fully furnished, small kitchen with balcony's street/bay view, a magnificent 4th floor top deck and most importantly secure parking for FRED only a block from the Malecon. With WiFi, electricity and secure parking included at just about $420us a month its even cheaper than the room and shared kitchen at Pension Baja Paradise @ $136us per week plus parking.
Excited to move in feeling good about staying in La Paz for a month the smart thing to do until travel restriction ease up.  Much cheaper than the US safe and secure La Paz offers a wonderful environment to explore and to be a part of during this time of stressful pandemic tensions. After some rearranging of furniture my pad was starting to take shape, up and down stairs all day from one place then to the other. Not that I had a lot of stuff but I practically moved out of FRED and took up residents on Bravo between Francisco Madero and Mutualimso.
Taking walks around La Paz Centro there is abundance of large scale local painted murals sponsored by Colectivo Tomate Y Comex paint stores the south of the border equivalent to Sherwin Williams or Benji Moore.
Of course cool buildings and some really neat cars. Several museums, Museo Regional de Antropologia E Historia closed during lock down. I was lucky enough to visit it last year offering interesting exhibits of the La Paz region and Baja California.
Each time I set out on foot to explore La Paz  it grows on me more and more. The weather, water, bay, beaches, boats, fishing, mountains, desert, plants, 4 wheeling, art, modern and ancient history, not too shabby!!!
Life's good as I kick around the streets of La Paz. BCS with a pad to call my own for the first time in 3 years being a full-time traveler.

Hope to see you on the Trail!!..
